Late goals from Mark McCammon and Stefan Payne rescued a point for Gillingham in Tuesday’s Combination League fixture against Aldershot.
Both managers fielded strong teams for the game with Andy Hessenthaler naming eight first team professionals in the starting eleven.
It was the hosts who made the early breakthrough as Luke Guttridge fired home from the edge of the box past keeper Daren Hawkes.
The lead was doubled seven minutes after the start of the second half when Wade Small shot home.
Gillingham left it late to stage a fight-back and it was Stefan Payne who halved the deficit on 78 minutes and six minutes later Mark McCammon headed home the equaliser.
McCammon (pictured) was one of several players getting valuable minutes under their belts as they continue to recover from injury. Dennis Oli and Stanley Aborah also played around an hour each.
Hessenthaler also introduced former Spurs reserve defender Takura Mtandari to the side just after the hour mark. He has previously been on trial at Lincoln, Norwich and Crystal Palace.
Gills: Hawkes, Southall, Evans (Brown 18mins), Davies, Essam, Maher, Rooney, Aborah (Mtandari 63mins), McCammon, Oli (White 56mins), S Payne. Subs not used: Brunt, Fisher.
