Boss Mark Stimson has warned his players that performances rather than reputations will be a key factor in who he picks as Gillingham look for the right formula to retain their League 1 status.

He said: The ones left out at Yeovil would have been among the first names on the teamsheet a few weeks ago.

"It's the way it's got to be because, if you are not performing, you might get left out and that means if you get back in, do it week week out, because there are players coming back from injuries like Danny Jackman.

"He had his second full game and I am sure that we will see the best of him after another full week's training."

Stimson was seen putting a consoling arm around one of the axed players Andy Barcham before the Yeovil game.

He said: "He was very disappointed to be left out and Andy is a guy with so much potential.

"He has just got to get over this as soon as possible, get his chin up and a smile back on his face.

"It's not a nice feeling, but it happens and if he his lucky enough to play the game for 10 years it will probably do so again.

"It's how you react, and I am sure he will react in the right way.

"The way the fans reacted to Adam Miller was great because it just shows you can turn things around, and that's what it's all about."
