Connor Essam has yet to make an appearance for Gillingham this season but he’s making a good impression on boss Martin Allen.
Essam (pictured) is back with the club after a recent loan spell at Blue Square Bet Premier Luton. He moved there after struggling to break into Allen’s matchday squad.
But Allen appreciates that the 20-year-old – who played regularly for the Gills at the end of last season – is a talent.
Allen said: "Connor Essam is back and he has done his stuff at Luton and done well.
"Since he has been back he has been outstanding in training as well and it’s great to have him back on the bench."
Essam’s route back into the starting XI, however, has been blocked by fellow youngster Callum Davies.
"Both of those two young lads work hard," said Allen. "They practise, they train, they work at their game. Both are conscientious and have a massive desire to be successful.
"With that type of attitude they are going to have big futures in football so we are lucky to have them at this club."
