Gillingham are back in Kent this weekend after returning from a five-day trip to Yorkshire.

Boss Martin Allen was pleased to have been able to take the players away and he thanked chairman Paul Scally for funding the trip.

Mr Scally flew in from Dubai to join up with the squad, as the Gills gained a win at Bradford and a point in York.

"We all appreciated it and it was his idea," said Allen. "He suggested it all. He booked us in good hotels and we all had good food, for a club at this level, and I like having him around.

"It is difficult for Mr Scally because he lives in Dubai and when he comes over I see it as part of our job to involve him.

"The players all appreciate not only the costing but the support he gives us.

"The first person on the phone to me after that Wycombe game (last week when the Gills lost at home) was Mr Scally.

"It is not nice when things don’t go well but he took everyone up north. He is like part of the team and, of course, it’s his football club. He never interferes with what we do and I know Mr Scally is happy with four points (from two away games) at this stage of the season."
