Improvements to the Gills team are still being sought by manager Martin Allen.
His side are the division’s pace-setters but he is constantly asking for more.
"We have to keep playing better," he said. "We should have kept the ball better in the last 25 minutes of the game (on Saturday).
"The game was won but we will learn from that and work on it. When you are winning like that you have to keep the ball and you don’t need to chase other goals.
"You need to tire the opposition, move it around and then the gaps will open up. We were too impatient to go and score more. You don’t need to play like that.
"We will help and evolve because when it comes to after Christmas, when the crowds will be big, we will be playing teams from the top part of this division. They will be what everyone calls the six-pointers, the big ones.
"We need to be able to play to win those games and practice to win those games. There are going to be some tough ones and some exciting nights.
"This place will be rocking, you can just feel it now. We do need to improve that area of our game but we have a lot of young lads and they are so desperate to do well. Sometimes you have to slow them down and play with the head rather than the heart."
