PLANS for a pair of mobile phone masts in Crayford and Bexleyheath have been thrown out by councillors.

The masts were set to be erected in London Road, Crayford, and Francis Avenue, Bexleyheath, but after complaints from local residents and businesses the council refused permission at a planning meeting.

The plans for the 12.5m 02 mast in Bexleyheath was objected to by local residents and the nearby Total petrol station. They claimed that the mast would devalue their properties and pointed out there were already two phone masts in the immediate vicinity.

The proposed 15m 02 mast in London Road also met with letters of opposition from residents who claimed the mast would be an eyesore and ‘visually intrusive’.

Councillors also criticised the telecoms giant for not exploring the possibilities of placing the masts elsewhere.
