Matt Coles put in another sensational spell with the ball to help Kent Spitfires to a four-wicket win against Yorkshire Carnegie in the opening game of the Clydesdale Bank Pro40.

Coles (pictured) continued his fine start to the season by claiming figures of 6-32 to help restrict the home side to 175-9 from their 40 overs at Headingley.

Mark Davies again proved miserly with the ball, taking 1-17 off his eight overs, while Adam Ball and Darren Stevens each chipped in with a wicket.

A much changed Kent side, which included Sam Billings, Alex Blake and Sam Northeast - all in for Charlie Shreck, Mike Powell and Ben Harmison - set about chasing down Yorkshire's total and got off to a good start with Billings (26) and Rob Key putting on 57 for the first wicket.

Key made 40 before he lost his wicket as Kent slipped to 97-3, but a stand of 65 between Stevens and Brendan Nash (24) put the Spitfires back in the driving seat. Stevens went on to score 59 from 51 balls but when he was out to Joe Root, it sparked a mini collapse as Kent lost Northeast and Nash in quick succession.

Geraint Jones held his nerve with an unbeaten eight at the end as Kent won with four balls to spare.

Kent return to action on Wednesday when they travel to play Essex at Chelmsford in the championship.
