Matt Fish produced his best performance yet against Swindon on Saturday, according to Gills boss Andy Hessenthaler.

The young right-back (pictured) joined from Dover in the summer but inconsistency and injuries have denied him a regular starting role.

But at the weekend he scooped the man-of-the-match award with a performance that thrilled Hessenthaler.

The Gills manager said: "There were some good performances out there and Matt Fish, who is playing his first year in pro football, had what I thought was his best game for the club.

"It is all about confidence but we know he is good enough. He just has to believe he is good enough."

Fish has now played 25 games for the Gills this season.
