She made it through to the finals, but sadly Maureen Hodges hasn’t been crowned Britain’s Best Mum.
The mum of five, from Hoo, was entered in to the GMTV competition by her 15-year-old son Aaron.
She appeared on GMTV on Thursday when the breakfast show presenter Richard Arnold arrived on her doorstep along with her friends, family and neighbours to tell her she was one of four finalists.
Viewers were asked to vote for their favourite mum via the GMTV website on Friday but on Sunday Maureen was told by producers she hadn’t won. The winner was due to appear on GMTV on Monday morning.
Maureen has a lot to contend with, her two eldest daughters Danielle and Holly are adopted and have Downs Syndrome and five years ago Maureen’s husband suddenly passed away.
She has devoted her life to raising her children and despite having a fear of water, she made sure her children were good swimmers. Maureen is now trying to overcome her fear by having swimming lessons so she can get into the water with them.
In a video shown on GMTV, Aaron told viewers why he thought his mum should be crowned Britain’s Best Mum.
He said: “My mum is one of the best people that could have ever existed over any scientist over any philosopher.
“She puts us over herself and she believes that if she takes care of us really well we will grow up to be good and respectable people.
“I love you so much I can’t contain it.”
