McCaughan bowls over England selectors

BETTESHANGER bowler Shaun McCaughan has completed an England Under 25 double. Two months after making his England U25 outdoor debut, the 20-year-old has now won a place in the U25 indoor team to face Wales at MidGlos Indoor Centre, near Gloucester, on December 16.

McCaughan caught the eye of the selectors again during the trials at the same Gloucestershire venue earlier this month. Twenty four bowlers will represent England against Wales, and McCaughan has also been picked as one of two travelling reserves for the 16-strong squad for the Junior Home International Indoor Series at Ballymoney in Northern Ireland in January.

He said: “There’s a good chance that I will play at least one game in Ballymoney, because they tend to switch the team around a bit after each match.”

McCaughan earned his indoor trial through his performance in the Junior Home International outdoor series in Wales in September, when he skipped his rink to victories in both of England’s matches.
