Firefighters from Medway helped fight a large blaze at a storage barn.

Crews from Strood and Medway fire stations went to the Brookside Nursery and Garden Centre in Seven Mile Lane, East Peckham on Tuesday.

The fire broke out at about 4pm and crews remained at the scene damping down the next morning. A number of barns had caught alight and at its height about 40 firefighters tackled the blaze, which included the crews from Medway.

Kent Police evacuated nearby buildings, including Brookside Garden Centre, as a precaution.

The cause of the fire is yet to be determined.
