A YOUNG father has stepped forward to help a sic seven-year old boy realise his life long dream.
Daryll Olde, 21, from Walderslade, decided to help after reading about the plight of Cameron Edmonds in the Medway Messenger.
His parents have been campaigning to raise the £10,800 needed for the six week trip to Australia, but are struggling to raise enough funds to pay the final instalment of the bill later this month.
Cameron has a muscle wasting condition which will leave him severely disabled by the time he reaches adulthood. Medics have said this year is the best time for him to go, before his health deteriorates.
Daryll said: “I’ve got a three-year-old son myself and I would be devastated if this was happening to him.
“So I sat down with my friend Matthew Hand who runs Piggy’s Disco and said ‘what can we do’ and he said he’d do a disco for free.
“I spoke to the person who runs Mafeking Hall and they said we could use the hall, so I let Lisa know and that’s that really.”
The party will be held at Mafeking Hall, Mafeking Road, Walderslade, from 6.30pm to 9.30m on Saturday, October 13. Soft drinks, crisps, sweets and biscuits will be available for a small charge.
People can bring their own alcoholic drinks and everyone is asked to bring an item of food such as sandwiches, cooked pizza etc so a buffet can be laid on.
Tickets are available at £2 each by calling Lisa on 07788488463. Tickets on the night will cost £2.50 each. A raffle will be held on the night.
Proceeds from the evening will go to the Get Cam to Oz campaign. So far £6,300 has been raised but a further £4,500 is needed before Thursday, October 18 – the day the final balance is due.
