A teenager who attacked a member of staff at his school is facing permanent expulsion.

The incident happened on Friday, July 25, shortly before Angley School, Cranbrook, broke up for the summer holidays.

According to head teacher Philip Morris, the pupil “lost complete control and assaulted a member of staff before leaving the site”.

It is understood the student manager had attempted to intervene during a fight and was punched in the face. He suffered a severe black eye.

Mr Morris has written to all parents explaining that the police were called

and he was taking steps with Kent County Council to prevent the youth returning to school.

The letter said: “This [incident] spoiled what had been a really good day, where all students were well behaved and there was a friendly and happy atmosphere...

“This very sad incident is extremely rare at Angley. Life in the school is usually characterised by friendly and positive relationships between students teachers and families.”

He added that the victim was well and would continue to do “excellent work” next term.

The chairman of governors, Denis East, said: “We take any assault very, very

seriously. There is going to be a meeting of the governors to discuss whether the lad is going to be permanently excluded. There are certain procedures we have to follow.”

Mr East described the boy as “a very bright child who can’t control his temper”.

He added: “The problem is there is nowhere to send these people who need

specialist help.

“Clearly there is a lot of anger in some young people and there is a lack of funding at schools for people who need this special help.

“To be honest, the behaviour is no different to when I went to school. There have always been bullies and there are always children who get into fights.

“We try to find out what makes them tick and sometimes children come from

different backgrounds and we have to try to break the cycle.

“But we take any physical or mental abuse very seriously. We can’t have

automatic exclusion, which is why we are having the meeting. There are

procedures we have to follow.”

A police spokesman confirmed police had been called and were investigating

the incident. No charges had been brought.
