A burglary turned into a robbery when the intruders found the householder at home.
Dan Lee was forced to hand over trainers, cash, mobiles and his TV when two men burst into his Margate flat.
Police arrested Margate men Tony Ripley, 20, of Duke Street, and Michael Jones, 19, of Addington Street, who appeared for sentence at Canterbury Crown Court having admitted the robbery.
Ripley was jailed for three and a half years having also breached a suspended sentence and Jones sent to a young offenders' institution for three years.
James Bilsland, prosecuting, said the accused knocked at Mr Lee’s flat at Gate Quays last December and asked for 'Jimmy’ then left. Minutes later the door was kicked in.
Ripley grabbed Mr Lee, pulled him into the front room and threw him on a sofa and searched the flat while Jones stood over him.
They took his mobile and asked about wrapped Christmas presents. When he said his mum’s present was a mobile, he was made to unwrap it and hand it over.
They also took his flat screen TV and trainers.
Before the intruders left, Mr Lee was told not to call the police. Ripley returned minutes later and took the Freeview box.
Both had been in trouble before, and Danny Moore, for Ripley, said he appreciated he faced a substantial sentence.
The motivation wasn’t robbery but burglary but the criminality escalated.
Ripley had shown remorse and not sought to blame anybody else.
Oliver Saxby, for Jones, said it wasn’t his idea to go to Mr Lee’s flat. He is only 19 and had pleaded guilty.
