People with mental health problems are being urged to use an innovative new website launched across Kent today.
The Live It Well site gives users the chance to read about their symptoms, find support groups and connect with other people who are struggling.
People can search by postcode for hundreds of different services including community mental health teams, resource centres, supported housing and volunteering opportunities.
It is the first time that Sevenoaks Mind, a voluntary organisation, has come together with local authorities and primary care trusts in both Kent and Medway to provide support.
It is estimated that 250,000 people in Kent struggle with some sort of mental health problem every year.
Mark Kilbey, from Canterbury, was diagnosed with bipolar disorder in 2001 after struggling for more than 20 years.
He said: "It's very frightening when you are diagnosed, it's scary for you, it's scary for the people around you. You lose a lot of support and you learn who your real friends are, that's for sure."
Mr Kilbey, who is also director of the Canterbury and District Mental Health Forum, was among the first to explore the new site and believes it will be useful for anyone with a mental illness.
He said: "It's very often a hidden illness and it's not always obvious that someone needs help. People who recognise they've got a problem will be able to get help without announcing publicly they have a mental health issue."
Lauretta Kavanagh, director of mental health commissioning for NHS Kent and Medway, added: "Don't keep it in, if you're feeling distressed or you're worried about someone close to you and how they may be emotionally or psychologically, please use the website."
