POLICE have issued a warning after spiked discs were placed in a road in the Warden Bay area on the Isle of Sheppey .
A woman was driving her car in Warden Bay Road at about 9pm on Saturday, October 14, when she suddenly saw something glinting.
She stopped her car and found that several joist hangers (silver metal spiked discs) had been placed in the road.
It is thought the discs had been deliberately placed there and could have e caused a serious accident if a vehicle had punctured its tyres on them.
Sgt Neil Kimber, of The Island Neighbourhood Team, said: "These thoughtless actions could have had serious consequences and even caused a fatal collision. We take incidents of this nature seriously and will not hesitate in arresting the person responsible for this mindless and criminal act."
He stressed: "Those who find this behaviour entertaining should be aware that this offence carries a seven-year term of imprisonment."
Police officers are keen to speak with anyone who may have witnessed the discs being placed in the road or has any information that will help with this investigation.
Witnesses are urged to contact Sittingbourne police station on 0808 300 1108 or Kent CrimeStoppers on 0800 555111.
