Folkestone Invicta gave their Ryman League Division 1 South promotion play-off hopes a boost with a narrow win over Walton Casuals on Wednesday night.

Centre-back Frankie Chappell (pictured) headed the only goal from a corner on 37 minutes to hand Invicta only their second win in seven games.

Top-scorer Stuart King - in his last game before starting a three match suspension - spurned the best chance to add to the lead when he somehow blazed over from inside the six-yard box.

The only low for the hosts was a red-card for keeper Jack Delo for handling outside the box with Casuals on the break just a minute from full-time.

The win moved Folkestone three points clear of sixth-placed Maidstone United, with both teams having five games remaining, and four ahead of seventh-placed Godalming, who have a game in hand on the Kent sides.

Cray Wanderers' hopes of a Ryman League Premier Division play-off place suffered a blow when they lost 1-0 at rivals Hendon on Tuesday night.

Wands were fifth, occupying the final play-off place, before kick-off but a 51st minute goal from Carl McCluskey means they slipped two points behind their hosts, although they do have a game in hand.

Dave Cook put the visitors on their way with a thunderous half-volley from outside the box shortly after the half-hour and Nick Reeves doubled the lead a minute before the break with a header following an Aaron Lacy long throw.

The clincher arrived 21 minutes from time when Cook was fouled while attempting a header and stepped up himself to convert the resultant penalty.

The win returned Town to the top-10, but they are 12 points adrift of Folkestone, who occupy the final play-off place, with just six games remaining.
