Folkestone Invicta went three points clear at the top of the Ryman League Division 1 South with a 3-1 win over Ramsgate at Buzzlines Stadium on Tuesday night.
Darren Smith’s (pictured) superb 25-yard shot flew in off the angle of post and bar to open the scoring on 15 minutes.
Warren Schulz replied with a free-header from a corner after the break but Folkestone re-took the lead within two minutes when Josh Vincent curled in from a tight angle.
An unusual clincher arrived on 83 minutes after Ramsgate had pushed all 11 players into the Invicta box for a corner, including keeper Sam Mott, thinking there was less time remaining than there was.
Keeper Jack Delo caught the cross and threw to Peter Williams on the half-way line who ran the ball into an empty net to secure Folkestone’s second 3-1 home win.
VCD were 2-1 winners at Heybridge in the Ryman League Division 1 North.
Jason Barton put VCD ahead after 38 minutes and they doubled their lead through youngster George Mitchell just before hour. Heybridge pulled one back on 73 minutes through Russell Malton's 25-yard goal.
