The finest military music will be on parade at the Historic Dockyard, Chatham, as part of the celebrations for Veterans’ Day next month.

The Band of HM Royal Marines Portsmouth will lead a traditional Beating Retreat and Ceremonial Sunset along with the Kohima Band of the Princess of Wales’s Royal Regiment, the Band of the Cinque Ports Rifle Volunteers and the City of Rochester Pipe Band.

Veterans’ Day at the Historic Dockyard on Saturday, July 5, will be combined with celebrations for Kent TA100, to mark the centenary of the Territorial Army’s formation.

Organisers say the day is part of a nationwide government initiative to recognise the veterans’ contribution.

They also intend it to be a day of family entertainment.

Bill Fowler, events manager at the historic dockyard, said:“Whenever a Royal Marines band performs in Kent, there is always high demand for tickets, especially among residents due to the county connections.

“This is no exception, with tickets already selling fast.”

All these bands will be playing during the day. A concert during the afternoon will be provided by the BAE Systems Band and a sing-a-long led by young female vocalist Kas, who has sung at many wartime period concerts.
