'Missing' man in blaze drama found safe

FEARS that a workman was missing after a huge blaze broke at a Victorian house in Chatham yesterday afternoon proved to be unfounded.

At the height of the fire a man who had been working in the next door building was unaccounted for and there were also concerns for squatters known to inhabit the derelict flats in the four-storey building in Maidstone Road.

All four floors off the house, including the roof, eventually collapsed, leaving the building as a shell. A policemen was treated for smoke inhalation after helping fight the fire.
