Gillingham will receive a huge financial boost from the Wembley play-off final – but chairman Paul Scally (pictured) has revealed it is just one of several cash bonuses this season.
Win or lose this Saturday, the Gills have already cashed in following a near sell-out home televised semi-final against Rochdale and the forthcoming Wembley trip.
The play-offs clearly weren’t built into this season’s budget and that cash boost isn’t the only one for the Gills.
Mr Scally said: "We haven’t achieved our budget so far in terms of cash income but luckily we received a sell-on fee for Darius Henderson, money for Luke Freeman, the Aston Villa game and money from the Matt Jarvis transfer as Wolves got promoted.
"Those things weren’t budgeted for and neither was Wembley so we’re very pleased. That will make the figures look very good and we’re going to make sure we don’t blow it."
Gillingham borrowed a lump sum from the Players’ Football Association earlier this season but with the unexpected income they were able to pay it back almost immediately.
Mr Scally (pictured left) insists he won’t be thinking of the money generated from the play-offs until after the weekend.
He said: "Everyone is talking about it but I’m not even thinking about it. Since (last) Monday I’ve been working flat out just getting everything organised and after it’s all over I’ll be able to sit back and see the cash flow improve slightly.
"The important thing now is to get the sale of tickets done in an orderly manner and make sure the fans are happy."
