People in Kent should expected more ice and frost later this week as further cold weather is expected over the next few days.

As the Met Office upgrades the cold weather alert to level 2 (yellow) in other parts of the county, the cold weather is expected to continues in Kent and will be icy on roads and paths.

Forecasters also say people should be keeping an eye on the elderly or vulnerable friends and neighbours during the cold snap which saw Kent wake up to widespread frost this morning.

This morning's frost will gradually clear to sunshine and it will remain cold all day, but in some rural parts there could be freezing fog and the maximum temperature today is expected to be a maximum of 6C.

Tonight it will be breezy and a band of rain and sleet is expected to move towards the coast and there could be some snow on higher ground.

Temperatures and icy stretchers are likely to form earlier than expected at about 6pm and will still be around at 11am tomorrow as temperatures are expected to dip to -1C.

Later tomorrow morning the rain and sleet should clear with icy stretches possible very early, but otherwise the day will be bright with plenty of sunny spells until in the afternoon when there could be a scattering of wintery showers.

Maximum temperature tomorrow is again not expected to reach higher than 6C.

From Wednesday it will still be cold but bright and showery which could turn later into fleeting snow.

There will be frost and ice overnight into Thursday again and temperatures are set to be less cold, however it will be cloudier towards the weekend, again with patchy rain and perhaps some snow.

People are being warned paths will be icy and people should be careful on pavements and cycle paths and on untreated roads.

However, Kent and Medway's gritters will be out in force later today threatening the county's roads as they did this morning on primary routes.

Kent County Council said its gritters will be out on main roads from about 6pm as temperatures reach below freezing and Medway's gritters will also be out and all primary routes in across the Towns will be treated by 7am tomorrow morning.
