DETECTIVES say further tests are required to establish what caused a landlord to collapse and die two months after being seriously injured during a pub brawl.

A post mortem examination carried out on Wednesday on 58-year-old Richard Would will require further analysis before a formal cause of death can be determined by a pathologist.

Mr Would, licernsee at the Nottingham Castle Hotel in Beach Road, Westgate-on-Sea, near Margate, collapsed and died at home on Tuesday.

Two months earlier he received hospital treatment for a week for serious head injuries after being assaulted following a disturbance at the pub.

Mr Would was still suffering complications as a result of the assault and had been prescribed medication when he was discharged from hospital.

Two other men, both customers, one aged 30 and the other 35, were also injured in the pub attack which happened between 12.20am and 12.40am on Saturday, February 24.

Police arrested a total of 12 people on suspicion of assault. Two were released without charge. Ten remain on police bail as enquiries continue.

Detectives investigating the assault still want to hear from anyone who may have any information about what happened that night.
