Motorcyclist killed in road crash

A 52-year-old motorcyclist died when his high-performance machine was involved in a collision at Bobbing, near Sittingbourne.

The tragedy occurred shortly before midnight on Wednesday on the A249, close to road works and a coned off section of the road.

Kent Police say there is believed to have been an incident between a tipper lorry and the Honda Pan European motorcycle which caused the bike to collide with the central reservation.

Both the rider of motorcycle and the driver of the lorry were travelling coast-bound.

Police have not yet named the bike rider who lived on the Isle of Sheppey. The lorry driver, aged 54, from the Canterbury area, was not injured.

Police are appealing for witnesses. Serious Crash Unit officers worked through the night and the road remained closed for about nine hours.

Police Sgt Bob Smith is leading the investigation and anyone with information is asked to contact him on 01622 606970.
