A motorist is in hospital with serious injuries after being shot in a 'road rage' dispute.

Police believe the man was shot in the stomach at around 10pm last night - after becoming embroiled in an argument with another motorist.

The 31-year-old man was taken to the William Harvey hospital in Ashford, where he is said to be in a stable condition.

The second man, believed to have been travelling alone and driving a light-coloured car, drove off in the direction of Dover.

Officers do not believe the two men knew each other and are appealing for any witnesses or anyone with any information to come forward.

Part of the Alkham Valley Road at the village of Alkham was closed following the incident but reopened at approximately 1pm this afternoon.

Police would like to speak to anyone who has information regarding this incident. Please contact Kent Police's major crime department in Folkestone on 01303 289600.
