A three vehicle crash on the M2 closed the coastbound carriageway for a short time on Friday afternoon.
The crash happened between junctions one and two close to the Cuxton turn-off.
One driver, thought to be in his early forties, had to be freed from his car by firefighters.
Crews from Strood and Thameside fire stations were called out to deal with the accident at about 2.40pm.
A spokesman for Kent Fire and Rescue Service said: “Three cars were involved in the accident.
"One man was trapped in his car, a Ford Mondeo, so we cut the door off to get him out.
He was the only person who was taken to hospital via an ambulance.
"The road was closed for a short time so we could clear up the debris, as there were a lot of stones on the carriageway from the hard shoulder, and as other motorists drove past the stones were chipping up and hitting us.
"So we decided to close it to prevent anyone else getting hurt by the flying stones.
“We were on the scene for about 45 minutes.”
The man's injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.
