When disaster strikes, people really do come through to help.

We reported last week how diamond wedding anniversary couple Frederick and Pamela Hall lost out on their celebrations when the Shurland Hotel closed.

After reading our story, Karen Manning from Sheppey Sports Club got in touch to offer the couple a family celebration in their hall free of charge.

Karen said: “We are doing it because it’s the right thing to do and I hope we can give them something to look forward to.”

Mr Hall said: “It’s the last thing I expected but I’m touched – you realise how kind people are.”
