A mum whose son was saved by Medway’s Oliver Fisher Special Care Baby Unit is organising a 24-hour sponsored ten-pin bowling marathon.

Joanne Green’s son Jack, was born 12-weeks early weighing just 3lb 3oz and needed specialist care to keep him alive.

Joanne and her husband Phil are so grateful to staff on the unit, based at Medway Maritime Hospital, they have decided to organise the 24-hour marathon to raise cash for some new up-to-date equipment.

The equipment will support babies in the unit so they don’t have to be transported elsewhere for specialist treatment.

Joanne, 30, from Chatham, said: “Jack was cared for six weeks on the unit and the staff there are so dedicated they kept him alive.

“They were on hand all the time and never left his side.

“I really do want to raise a much money as possible as it would be brilliant to get the unit the equipment it needs so more babies get the best chance in life.”

Joanne is looking for 36 people to take part in the event, which is being held in Lordswood over two days in November.

Joanne added: “I already have 12 people who have pledged to take part in the event, but we still need more.

“It is being held on Saturday and Sunday, November 22 and 23, so there is plenty of time for people to get sponsorship.

“I’ve got loads of sponsorship forms, so all they need to do is give me a call.”
