Mystery as body is found in river

A BODY has been recovered from the River Medway. Police were alerted by a member of the public at 3.45pm yesterday and went to the scene at Herying Close, Halling, near Rochester, which is close to the river.

A doctor and a nurse also attended the scene. The body was removed from the water using specialist equipment and taken away in a private ambulance shortly before 7.30pm.

Insp Michael Millen said: "We cannot say if the body is male or female or give any other details at this stage."

A post mortem examination is due to be carried out today in order to establish the cause of death.

Forensic officers were returning to the scene today.
