POLICE have renewed their appeal for information about a car accident which claimed the life of a schoolgirl after an anonymous note about the case was left at a police station.
The victim was 12-year-old Hayley Day, from Paddock Close, Lydd, near Folkestone.
PC Steven Halliwell, who recently received a certificate of merit for his investigation into the crash, received the unsigned note last week. He is now urging the writer to get in touch as the letter raised more questions than answers.
Hayley was a passenger in a red Escort van which collided with a silver BMW on the A2070 Hamstreet bypass near the Snave and Ivychurch turning on Sunday March 16.
The van jack-knifed across the road in to the path of the car after both vehicles had to swerve to avoid a dark blue Peugeot 406 overtaking rows of traffic.
Hayley was flown to the William Harvey Hospital in Ashford but died later. Witnesses all described seeing the dark car driving recklessly seconds before the accident but despite an exhaustive police investigation the car and driver have never been found.
Anyone with information is asked to telephone PC Halliwell at Ashford police station on 01233 611055 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555000.
