POLICE are hoping a member of the public might be able to solve a mystery triggered by clothing and jewellery discovered on a Kent beach.
A woman walking along the sands opposite Margate railway station on Sunday, February 17, came across a clean and neatly-folded pile of woman’s clothes.
There were white peep toe high-heeled shoes (size six), a grey pair of trousers and matching waistcoat, white shirt dress, Jane Norman beige cord jacket and white underwear, all in a size 10. None of the garments were damaged.
A gold chain was also left with the clothes. It has a clear stone pendant attached to it.
Dover Coastguard was informed and Margate lifeboat, already in the Channel on an exercise, searched the coastline, to no avail. The coastguard aircraft later flew over the area without spotting anything in the water.
Officers checked the promenade and car parks for clues and hospitals were contacted, but with no trace of the possible owner.
Insp Kev Stephens, from Margate Police Station, said the police are not treating the matter as suspicious at this stage.
But he added: "This is a strange one for us. We have exhausted all present lines of inquiry and hope that someone may recognise the clothes and jewellery and be able to help us.
"We have had no reports of anyone missing who may have worn these clothes. If anyone has any information, we would appreciate it so this mystery can be solved."
If anyone recognises the clothes or jewellery or has any information, contact 01843 231055, quoting the reference 17-0482.
