A man has been charged after a teenager was allegedly stabbed in the neck.

Nathan Spence, of James Street, Gillingham, is accused of wounding with intent.

The 25-year-old - originally arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm - has been granted bail until a court appearance.

The alleged victim, 19, was taken to hospital after an incident in Richmond Road, Gillingham, shortly before 9pm on Monday.

Kent Police say they were called at 8.50pm to the road at its junction with Saunders Street after it was reported two men had been injured.

A second man, 20 and also local, was taken to hospital with minor injuries.

People living in the street said police sealed off the road for several hours and said they saw police cars and an ambulance, but added police activity in the street was not unusual.

One woman, who did not want to be named said she came home shortly after 10pm and the road was still closed.

She said: "My son said he saw a man in the back of the ambulance, who had apparently been stabbed in the neck.

"He was sitting up and was holding a large towel or something similar to his neck. But my son said it had happened three hours before the police and ambulance arrived."

Spence is due to appear before Medway magistrates on Monday, October 15.
