National honour for school governor 'superwoman'

A mother described by many as "superwoman" has scooped a national award.

Chair of governors at Harrietsham Primary School, Einir Roberts, has won a coveted UK Teaching Award – and staff, pupils and fellow governors found out the news on Sunday.

Ms Roberts is the UK winner of the 2008 Department for Children, Schools and Families (DCSF) Award for Governor of the Year.

She stepped in as chair of the governing body in a crisis and has seen the school come out of special measures and fulfill its long-held ambition of having new premises designed and built.

She was to receive her gold plato – a symbol of excellence in education – as one of 11 UK winners at a ceremony at the London Palladium on Sunday night.
