A club has had its alcohol licence renewed despite objections from some of its neighbours.
The Wigmore and District Smallholders’ Club, in Springvale, Rainham, has had a licence approved to sell alcohol until midnight on Tuesdays, Fridays and Saturdays.
There had been objections to the proposal from some residents who said they were unhappy about the club being used for parties, noise levels and people leaving the venue late at night.
But the applicants for the licence said 18 and 21 birthday parties had been banned, noise meters had been installed and apart from the application for late night refreshment there was no change in the existing licence.
There were also no objections from police or environmental health teams.
Mike Smith from the club said: “There are no plans to host indoor sporting events, live music or discos.
"The club function hall is used every week for short mat bowls, Bingo and for a local jazz band practice session.
"The club hall is hired out to non-members for such events as weddings, funerals, birthday and anniversary celebrations.”
