THE Spitfire and Hurricane Memorial Museum at Manston, already famous for its historic aircraft and displays of Second World War aviation memorabilia, has recently opened an exhibition of weapons, uniforms and artefacts.
These relate to the Battle of France that took place during May 1940 culminating in the evacuation from the beaches of Dunkirk, and the display will be at the centre until February 23.
The exhibits have been loaned by the Twentieth Century and Living History Society, known as C20, a group of military historians who specialise in the history of the French Army between 1914-1960.
It comprises more than 200 items of weaponry, uniforms and equipment used by the French, British and German forces engaged in the conflict.
Members of the C20 and associated organisations will be at the museum between 10am and 4pm on Saturday, December 2, dressed in the uniforms of the period, to describe the battle, the numerous displays and to answer any questions.
Alastair Robertson from the museum said: "This promises to be an interesting and colourful occasion offering the opportunity for some unusual photographs."
The museum includes a shop offering attractive and unusual aviation gifts at bargain prices which could help solve some of those more difficult Christmas present problems, while the Merlin Cafeteria is an ideal venue for a snack or a meal overlooking Kent International Airport.
Admission is free. Further information is availble from www.c20warfare.org or www.spitfire.memorial.museum.
