A motorist was devastated when just minutes after picking up his new car it caught fire.

The man and his two passengers had to abandon the Volkswagon Golf after noticing flames along the A2 London bound close to the Tollgate Hotel turn off.

Fire crews from Strood and Thames-side were alerted at about 12.30pm on Saturday.

The fire is understood to have been caused by an electrical fault.
