Cody McDonald will make his home debut for Gillingham on Tuesday night and he knows he has big boots to fill.

McDonald signed for the Gills on the day star striker Simeon Jackson completed the formalities on his deal at Norwich.

Gillingham cashed in on Jackson for an undisclosed fee, thought to be around £600,000, but as part of the deal McDonald arrived in the opposite direction.

The striker swap ends a summer of speculation surrounding Jackson and gives 23-year-old McDonald the chance to shine.

"Those are very big boots to fill," said McDonald, having made his Gills debut in the 4-0 win at Calais on Saturday.

"I don’t know Simeon but the boys say he’s a good lad and hopefully he goes to Norwich and does a really good job for them and I can do the same here. We’ll just take each game and see how it goes.

"I’m paid to score goals and I’m looking to come here and do that for Gillingham.

"Hopefully we can get back into League 1 because the club is far too big to be in League 2 and getting back to League 1 should be the start of a stepping stone for things to come."

The Gills entertain Peterborough at Priestfield from 7.45pm.
