Two Medway MPs have been appointed to new posts in Gordon Brown's government reshuffle.
Gillingham and Rainham MP, Paul Clark has been made a minister at the Department for Transport under the Secretary of State, Geoff Hoon MP.
Mr Clark will be Parliamentary Under Secretary at the Transport Department. He will work with Geoff Hoon MP, Lord Andrew Adonis and Jim Fitzpatrick MP at the Department for Transport.
The MP was contacted by the Prime Minister as Gordon Brown prepared to leave France after talks with European leaders on the world financial situation on Saturday evening.
Mr Clark had just been at the Brook Theatre in Chatham to help launch Medway Black History Month.
He said: "I am absolutely delighted to be asked by the PM to be a Minister for Transport.
“I have always said it is great honour to be elected as a Member of Parliament, doubly so to represent my home town.
"But now being asked to be a Minister in such an important aspect of all our lives – whether it is as a rail commuter, driving on our road network, navigating our coasts and waterways, utilising cycle paths, bus routes or footpaths – I am extremely privileged to have this opportunity.
“I will be doing all that I can to help deliver reliable and efficient transport networks, supporting economic growth, our communities, contributing to tackling climate change and enhancing opportunities for all sections of our society”.
Chatham and Aylesford MP Jonathan Shaw has been appointed minister for disabled people.
He leaves his post as minister for the Department for the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs but remains minister for the South East.
Mr Shaw said he was delighted with his new role.
"I have got a background in social work and I hope I will be able to bring some of those skills to the job.
"It is about helping people with disabilities into work and working with employers to help find ways of supporting people with disabilities in the work place."
