CLLR PAUL CARTER: big challenges ahead

CLLR Paul Carter is to become the next leader of Kent County Council, it has been announced.

Cllr Carter, the Cabinet member for Education, suceeds Sir Sandy Bruce-Lockhart who is to stand down after eight years in the post.

Cllr Carter said: "We must build on the phenomenal succcess of the last eight years. We now face some major challenges for which we will find solutions. We will also continue to deliver improved services for all the people of Kent."

Cllr Carter, who is the member for Maidstone North East Division, is married with three grown-up children and runs his own property and construction business.

He is also a motor sport enthusiast and competes in vintage rally races.

Sir Sandy said: "Paul will be an immensely able leader who will take the county council and Kent foward."

Cllr Carter beat of a challenge from fellow Cabinet member Alex King for the post.
