New lead in fatal hit-and-run inquiry

The driver of a blue Toyota 4x4 is being sought by police as a possible witness to a fatal hit and run.

Officers would like to speak to the male driver who was seen near the A20 spot where 70-year-old Shirley Leedham was hit and killed at 8.40am on October 9.

A fresh media appeal was launched by police last week in a bid for more information regarding the collision.

Following the appeal a woman contacted police and said she was driving along the A20 from Leeds towards Harrietsham that day.

As she came off the roundabout, a dark blue Toyota 4x4, with 53 in the registration number, overtook her. It was being driven by a white man with dark hair.

Sergeant Guy Ditcher, leading the investigation, said: "We would greatly like to hear from this driver as he might have witnessed the RTC. There is no suggestion that he was involved in any way.”
