Parent power is being hailed as succeeding in getting plans for a new £3.9million primary school under way.

But the school at Goat Lees is dependent on developers coming forward with plans to build more homes in the area.

Education chiefs are expected to unveil their plans for the school on Thursday.

County councillors will be told KCC accepts there should be a new school for the area but that it will only go ahead once it is clear more development is in the pipeline.

KCC says that it will begin consulting on the school plan immediately developers submit plans for more homes either on the Police Training Ground or on nearby sites on the A28.

Local county councillor Richard King said he was convinced the school would be built despite the economic downturn leading to developers cutting back.

“This is a victory for parent power,” he added.
