New wave legends Squeeze will perform at the Rochester Castle Concerts this summer, playing the opening gig on Wednesday, July 13.

Fronted by founding members Chris Difford and Glenn Tilbrook, they will treat fans to an evening packed with their hits, including Cool for Cats, Tempted, Up the Junction and Take Me I’m Yours.

Formed in South London in the early 70s, Squeeze has become one of the most influential bands of the past 40 years, with their winning melodies and bittersweet lyrics about London life also striking a chord in the USA.

Since reforming in 2007, the band has been selling out gigs and festivals all over the UK and in 2009 received the Ivor Novello award for Outstanding Contribution to British Music.

Having previously featured the likes of Jools Holland and Paul Carrack, the current line-up consists of Difford, Tilbrook, drummer Simon Hanson, keyboard player Stephen Large and Squeeze veteran John Bentley on bass.

Tickets for the show cost £32.50 and will go on sale on Tuesday, February 8, at 10am.

Squeeze are the second act to be added to the Castle Concerts line-up. Pop singer Peter Andre will perform on Thursday, July 14.

Concert tickets are available by calling in person at The Central Theatre or The Brook Theatre box offices in Chatham, Medway Visitor Information Centre, 95 High Street, Rochester, by phone on 338338 or online at www.castleconcerts.co.uk
