Rose Gibb has called on the government to explain the failings that led to the fatal C-diff outbreaks at three hospitals.

Police today announced that Ms Gibb will not face a criminal investigation over the deaths, which happened while she was chief executive of the Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust.

The announcement, the result of a nine-month review into a Healthcare Commission report, was made by Kent Police and the Health and Safety Executive this morning.

Ms Gibb's partner, Mark Rees, read a statement at the couple's home in Sole Street, near Cobham, today.

He said: "I am pleased that today's announcement confirms what we always knew to be the case. I would suggest any further questions should be put to the leadership of the NHS and secretary of state as they are better placed to explain the real underlying causes and issues then existing throughout the NHS.

"Everything else is a deflection from the real issues and further political scapegoating of Rose.

"Although Rose is pleased, it confirms what we always knew to be the case. We're extremely sorry for the families but wish the NHS and MTW concentrate on dealing with the real issues and causes."
