I know this weekend’s game at Charlton is a match Gillingham fans are looking forward to.
Trust me, all the boys are just as eager to get there and ruffle some feathers.
Charlton had a poor result on Saturday – losing 4-0 at Millwall – and will be desperate to get back on track against us but we are ready for them.
We believe we should have won the game at home (and we would have done but for some left-back scoring an own goal!).
We’ve heard that there will be more than 2,000 Gills fans there to cheer us on, which will make for an incredible atmosphere.
We go into the game with just one defeat in six games so we’re confident that we can upset them.
My message to everyone who is coming is to be as loud as you can. There are 10 games left to play and I’m sure that, with your help, there will be a few victories before the end of the season.
There are some great games coming up and we’re looking forward to the challenges ahead.
I also owe a note of thanks to all of you who made the trip up to Stockport on Saturday.
I’m sure you will have noticed how difficult the playing surface was. It was basically hard mud which also churned under foot, making judging the bounce of the ball, passing and changing direction difficult.
It’s something that Stockport have been used to most of the season and they know how to play on it. It took us 10 minutes or so before we managed to fully get to grips with the pitch as Stockport started with long balls and early pressure.
We managed to stand up to that threat, though, and got ourselves into the game and created some good chances of our own.
We should have had a penalty when Barch was upended in the box. Unfortunately, the referee decided the lad had played the ball but having seen it again, I think we can feel hard done by.
Barch was causing some problems for them and squared another ball for Millsy, who was denied by a great block.
We went in level at half-time and started the second half okay. Jacko narrowly missed from a great turn and strike, which I thought was in.
He also raced onto a great through ball from Millsy and forced the keeper into a great save. Jacko is convinced he would have scored if he hadn’t felt his hamstring tighten at the critical moment. That twinge forced him off but we hope he will be okay for the weekend.
We managed to see out the game and take a draw. We would have been happy with four points from the games against Huddersfield, Stockport and Charlton and we already have that. So we go into the weekend looking to add to our tally.
