Firstly, on behalf of all the boys, I want to say a massive thank you to all the brave souls who travelled so far on Tuesday and stood in the freezing cold to cheer the boys on to a hard-earned point.

The journey is long to say the least as I got home at 3.30am on Wednesday morning. I know you guys must have been getting in around the same time. At least, though, you didn’t have Adam Mills ‘spooning’ you on the back of coach while trying to get some sleep like I did!

Hartlepool is a difficult place to go to get points and that’s how it proved for us. We had to give it everything to come away with our point.

We started well and had some half chances before Hartlepool came into it and had some pressure of their own, during which AJ pulled off a tremendous save to keep the scores level at half-time.

After the break it was an even affair and we managed to edge in front.

Rene worked hard to create some space down the right to cross for Jacko and he nipped across his centre-half before planting a great header into the far corner.

Hartlepool went for it after our goal and had some pressure.

But we withstood it and I couldn’t see them breaking us down. Unfortunately, we were undone by a long-range strike which I think the lad scuffed to be honest. It sent the ball into a swerve and dip which was unintentional and saw it find its way into the corner of our net.

All things being said, I think it was a decent return after another good result against Colchester last Saturday.

They were always going to make it hard for us being fourth in the league and with our home record and the fact they had conceded a lot of goals recently.

I think we can be pleased with the draw, particularly after a disappointing result against Accrington beforehand.

Chances were few and far between again, although AJ was called upon to make a great save from Kevin Lisbie in the second half.

We face Walsall tomorrow (Saturday) in a big game for us. If we can get the three points, it will make our last two results seem even better and could also move us up the table towards a healthier position.

It won’t be easy, though, as they are an organised side who have some decent forwards. If we can keep a clean sheet I’m sure we can claim all the points.

We have had three new faces since my last column and they have had a positive effect on things. It always livens the place up when new faces come in and we’ve also had Danny Jackman training again which has also been like a new signing.

So again get behind us on Saturday and hopefully we’ll get the three points.
