It was home sweet home again for us on Saturday as we collected another win at Priestfield despite awful conditions and a disciplined Oldham side.

The game was delayed for safety reasons with the wind being a problem. It was only for five minutes, though, and it didn’t affect our preparation too much. Better to wait five minutes and make sure everything is safe and secure for everyone.

Before the game, the referee told us to change into our away kit as he felt our blue clashed with theirs. We weren’t too pleased but we changed to yellow, only to be told that blue was OK after all. It was quite funny as poor Malc, our kit man, nearly had a meltdown trying to get everyone in and out of their right kits!

I didn’t see much of a clash to be honest and there was certainly no problem making out their keeper who looked like a jar of piccalilli!

Oldham came to frustrate us with a packed midfield and they put themselves about with Stewy Lewis and Barch baring the brunt of their aggressive tactics. I thought we stood up to that well and gave as good as we got.

We eventually got the breakthrough in the second half when Fab nipped in and was brought down by ‘slimline’ Gregan for a penalty.

Curt stepped up and whipped the ball in the bottom corner, giving the keeper no chance, and that proved to be the difference.

It could have been more had the keeper not made a fantastic save from Barch in the second half.

We defended well and kept another clean sheet at home to take the three points.

That moves us up the table a bit, pushing towards that top half which is a realistic aim for us this year. We were without a few players on Saturday but again showed that we have a strong squad as we didn’t appear to miss the lads too much which is encouraging for the rest of the season.

We move onto Bristol Rovers away this weekend in a game we feel confident we can take something from.

They have started well this season and haven’t drawn many games so will be going for a win just like us, so it should be a good game.

We welcome back Barry Fuller and Simeon Jackson for the game. That will give the gaffer a selection headache as we performed well on Saturday but whoever he picks will be raring to go and aiming to get the first away win of the season.
