ACCORDING to Hyundai, its new Elantra diesel range features the ideal blend of power, economy and performance. The Elantra diesels are available in Si, GSi and CDX versions and feature the same 2-litre common rail turbo-diesel engine seen in the Santa Fe and Trajet.

Prices are: 2.0 TD Si - £11,999; 2.0 TD GSi - £13,199; 2.0 TD CDX - £14,999.

The Elantra diesels are available in five-door hatchback form.

The 1991cc turbo-diesel engine offers impressive fuel economy - 32.9mpg on the urban cycle, 55.4mpg on an extra urban run and 44.1 mpg combined. It can manage the 0 to 62 mph dash in 11.7 seconds and has a top speed of 118mph.

Standard features across the range include power steering, driver/passenger/side airbags, anti-lock brakes with electronic brake force distribution, air conditioning, electric front windows and four-speaker CD/radio.

The TD GSi adds electric rear windows, keyless entry and alarm, six speaker CD/radio, electrically adjustable tilt and slide sunroof and electric heated door mirrors. The TD CDX adds traction control, leather seat trim and climate control.
