Two prison officers from Kent have today been arrested by police investigating corrupt payments from journalists to public officials.

The men - aged 26 and 52 - were arrested at their home in the county early this morning by officers from Operation Elveden.

Scotland Yard said the serving officers are both being questioned over allegations of misconduct in a public office.

The younger man is also being held on suspicion of money laundering.

A Metropolitan Police spokesman said officers from Operation Elveden arrested the pair at their home in Kent at about 6am.

The 52-year-old man is being interviewed at a south London police station, while the 26-year-old is being held at a county police station.

So far, 69 people have been arrested as part of Operation Elveden - an inquiry into allegations of inappropriate payments to police and public officials.

It is running alongside Operation Weeting, the Met's phone-hacking probe.
