The district’s coastline has been confirmed as the place to be this summer after four beaches scooped top awards for water quality, cleanliness and facilities.
Herne Bay Central and Tankerton beaches have, for a second year running, been awarded the prestigious Blue Flag in recognition of the highest levels of water quality.
It means the beaches are among the best in the country.
Meanwhile, Reculver and Herne Bay East beaches have both won Quality Coast Awards for offering opportunities for "relaxed recreation" by the sea. It’s the second year that the beaches have achieved the award.
In praising Reculver, judges described it as “a perfect place to relax and admire the stunning Kent coastline…a haven for those looking for a peaceful hideaway,” while Herne Bay East is described as “the perfect spot to soak up the relaxed atmosphere of this charming town."
Canterbury City Council’s executive member for foreshore services, Cllr Peter Vickery-Jones, said: “We’re delighted to have won four top beach awards for summer 2008.
"It’s a massive boost for our coastal towns and we expect to see a big increase in the number of visitors as a result."
