Adebayo Akinfenwa attacks against Lincoln when the sides met at Priestfield back in August Picture: Barry Goodwin
Our panel of Gills fans are divided about how they think Andy Hessenthaler's men will perform at Lincoln on Saturday. A victory, a defeat and a draw have been predicted, with guest Lincoln fan sitting on the fence by forecasting a point each.
Sam Livingstone
(Pangbourne)
"If we don’t beat Lincoln then we are in real danger of finishing our season in mid-table obscurity. We need to push on and keep trying to pick up points to secure a play-off position.
"After several fairly poor performances, I think Hess will fire up the boys and we could see a few changes to freshen things up. Luke Rooney is one player who deserves to start and I hope that we don’t see Payne, Maher and Weston all starting as we need some width.
"I think the Gills should edge this game with Lincoln on a wretched run – McDonald, Rooney, Barcham to score."
Prediction: Lincoln 1 Gills 3
Richard Pepper
(Manston)
"Sadly it looks as though automatic promotion is now well and truly beyond us, although this is hardly surprising given our indifferent form all season.
"Sincil Bank has never really been a great stomping ground for us and I do not expect Saturday to change that. With half a dozen games to go, it is simply too late to ‘get started’.
"Changes to the formation and line-up are necessary, with Weston being moved to the centre of midfield where he usually excels, Spiller coming in on the right and Maher alongside Weston with Barcham on the left, in a more attacking formation.
"I would also bring Simon King (pictured) back in for an hour as we so desperately miss the quality of his distribution from the back, although this is a gamble. Either that or bring Gowling back in. I will be going up and getting behind the team as usual but this season is looking like being one of failure both on and off the pitch. Sadly going for a home win."
Prediction: Lincoln 3 Gills 1
James Pemble
(Gillingham)
"After a pretty shocking performance on Saturday, I’m not travelling to Lincoln with much hope.
"I would like to see a reaction from the players and Hess but I can’t see it happening and I’m predicting a goalless draw which ends Gills’ promotion hopes.
Prediction: Lincoln 0 Gills 0
Andy Townsend
(Lincoln fan)
"We are hoping to see key players Ashley Grimes and Mustapha Carayol in the side.
"Grimes has been a big player for us and Carayol could also be vital, depending which Carayol turns up. We’ll know within the first couple of minutes if he is on his game.
"Unfortunately we lost Delroy Facey to injury and he and Grimes really clicked in attack. Gillingham are pushing for promotion and I would have predicted a 1-0 away win but as they seem to draw so often, I’ll go for 1-1 this weekend.
"There aren’t many teams who have outplayed us this season, with only the odd game against Shrewsbury, Bury and Rotherham seeing us getting hammered.
"Since we last played Gillingham we have changed manager, with Chris Sutton going. Steve Tilson has come in and steadied the ship and although we are looking over our shoulder we should be safe from relegation (even though I said that in ‘86!).
Prediction: Lincoln 1 Gills 1
